She's called it... TIME OUT!
It's been a busy month for me. I've worked and managed to squeeze an epic Disney adventure in with the family. It's not been a piece of cake but it was thoroughly planned: I planned to be away, planned my workload for whilst I was away and gave myself permission to be away.
Ensuring I could thoroughly enjoy my family time, I parked the 'work guilt' that I used to feel and planned my time off. Any business can fluctuate across the seasons and as I continue my voyage into self-employment, as a working mum, having the adaptability and flexibility to work around the children is fundamental. I am committed to giving myself permission to focus on being a wife and mum too, when I need to, that is important and is why I'm here.
So taking time out is healthy, it allows us to refocus, rest and repair ourselves for the next chapter. Despite the jet-lag I've come home with a spring in my step to get the jobs done and dusted. I feel motivated to do the best I can for my clients and meet their needs.
The kids have regular time across the year to take time out and I think it's important for all of us to plan in specific rest periods. We could all work 24/7 but are we productive and are we doing ourselves any favours? I don't think so. We need to learn from some of our Scandinavian neighbours and take it a wee bit slower.
So get your diary out and find some time for you and/or your family/friends. Life is short. Make happy memories and enjoy what you do! (I can thoroughly recommend Disney World...more to follow on that)
